Excavation Site
During the 9th century, an excavation site was set up southwest of the Abbasid capital of Baghdad by the Order of the Ancients. Situated atop an Isu vault, the site was overseen by the Order member and scholar Fazil Fahim al-Kemsa, who sought to use the Isu technology recovered from the vault to build his machine, the Alruh.
History[]
In the 860s, the Order of the Ancients discovered the ruins of this Isu vault, as well as another one north of Baghdad, and set up excavation sites at both locations to retrieve any pieces of Isu technology housed within.[1] The technology recovered from this particular vault was used to build the Alruh, a machine which could decipher the contents of Memory Seals. The machine was constructed by the doctor and Order member Hassan with the assistance of the inventor Ahmad ibn Musa, who was a member of the Hidden Ones and unaware of Hassan's true affiliations.[2]
Because Ahmad did not contact the Hidden Ones at any point while working on the Alruh, Basim Ibn Ishaq was sent to find him and his investigation led him to the excavation site. As the site was heavily guarded, Basim enlisted the services of a group of nearby mercenaries to distract the guards while he searched for clues. Eventually, Basim came across a note from Hassan in which the doctor invited Ahmad to come to the Great Bimaristan to continue their work together, prompting Basim to travel there next.[2]
