Dymnos (died 48 BCE) was a Greek individual who entered the service of Apollodorus, working as the Master of Arms at his estate in Kanopos Nome during the 1st century BCE.[1]
Biography[]
At some point in his life, Dymnos befriended Alcandros. They kept in touch via letters.[2].
In 48 BCE, Dymnos approached Ruia, who was retrieving a letter from the pigeon coop for the estate's steward Pelias. He requested her to read a letter for him, however when she refused, Dymnos angrily pushed her off the pigeon tower, unwittingly causing her death; unbeknownst to Dymnos however, Ruia was able to grab his badge as she fell. In an attempt to cover up her death, Dymnos hid her body in a haycart nearby.[2]
Ruia's failure to return led Pelias to send the Medjay Bayek of Siwa to retrieve the letter and investigate her disappearance. Bayek returned to Pelias with Ruia's body and they discovered Dymnos' badge on her, linking her death to him. Confronting Dymnos in the armory of the estate, Bayek was forced to defend himself and kill Dymnos, who acknowledged the murder of Ruia and attempted to silence Bayek.[2]
Personality and traits[]
- "I suppose you want the same fate as Ruia, you stupid Egyptian. I'll teach you the same lesson she learned!"
- ―Dymnos to Bayek in 48 BCE
Dymnos thought Egyptians were less than him, an attitude he shared with his acquaintance Alcandros. Confident in his own fighting capabilities, he charged at Bayek, expecting to be able to easily kill him.
