Domenico (born 1479) was a member of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins during the Renaissance.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Domenico grew up in Venice, left to his own devices as a child. His parents were destitute and either could not or would not care for him. He was often sick, malnourished, and frail.[1]
Out of necessity, Domenico joined a gang of street thugs—not out of desire, but because it seemed the only viable way to survive. Although the gang offered him a semblance of family and provided food and shelter, he was constantly exposed to violence and abuse. As a teenager, he developed a growing sense that he was on the wrong path. With great effort and strength of will, he eventually broke free from that life.[1]
Thanks to a fortunate turn of events, Domenico found refuge in a monastery and was accepted as a recruit. After years of menial tasks and disciplined training, he eventually became a monk.[1]
Joining the Assassins[]
The promises of religious life initially seemed profound and extraordinary to Domenico. However, he soon became disillusioned by the lack of meaningful answers from his fellow monks and the clergy as a whole.[1]
In his late teens, he was sent to Florence, where he attended a sermon by Girolamo Savonarola, a self-proclaimed prophet preaching against the excesses of the Church. The sermon deeply moved Domenico, and he immediately became one of Savonarola's followers. But his admiration was short-lived—he watched with growing bitterness as Savonarola descended into fanaticism. The prophet's fall shattered Domenico's belief that change could come from within the Church.[1]
When he witnessed the Master Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze deliver a merciful death to Savonarola, sparing him from the agony of being burned alive, Domenico's reverence shifted entirely. He was inspired by Ezio's conviction and compassion and soon after was welcomed into the ranks of the Brotherhood of Assassins.[1]
Personality and traits[]
Domenico was a tormented soul, shaped by a stolen childhood and deep disappointment in the Church. These experiences forged him into a determined and introspective individual. He was keenly aware of his own inner turmoil and often struggled to keep his emotions in check. Because of this, he preferred to distance himself from direct combat whenever possible, relying instead on strategy, observation, and restraint. His past made him thoughtful and deliberate—a quiet but steadfast presence within the Brotherhood.[1]
Behind the Scenes[]
Domenico is a playable character in the Roma expansion pack for the table top role-playing game, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood of Venice. Domenico's design is based on the Trickster archetype from Assassin's Creed: Identity. [citation needed]
