Deviled Water was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description[]
Eivor encountered a group of monks and a man standing on a boat.
Dialogue[]
In Jorvik, Eivor came upon a scene by the river near Coppergate Market. A Norse convert to Christianity had sequestered himself on a boat to avoid going through the Baptismal rite while a priest argued with him from above.
- Anglo-Saxon Man 1: Are you going to enter the water or not?
- Norse Man: No! The waters are too cold! But... the quicker I am baptized, the bigger business will be.
- Anglo-Saxon Man 1: One does not receive the Holy Spirit under the watchful eye of God simply to improve trade!
Eivor talked to the other monks.
- Anglo-Saxon Man 2: That man needs a push. Or a good scare.
- Anglo-Saxon Man 3: A moment in frozen water is a minor bit of suffering for a lifetime serving the Great Father! Do! It!
The main priest reiterated the importance of the Baptismal to the new convert.
- Anglo-Saxon Man 1: One cannot become one of God's children without going through the proper ritual!
- Norse Man: No! I have avoided the water for weeks, and I do not intend to freeze this Yule!
- Anglo-Saxon Man 1: No wonder the people avoid your market stall. You positively reek.
Losing patience, Eivor leapt down to the boat.
- Norse Man: I have a delicate body! The cold will take the life out of me!
Eivor seized control of the boat and ushered the man into the river.
- Norse Man: Ah!
- Eivor: There you go.
- Norse Man: Cold, cold! The ice waves are taking me, save... Hey, this is not so bad.
- Anglo-Saxon Man 1: Good God, at last! I hearby baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit within us all! You are now... a child of God!
- Norse Man: So, is this it?
- Anglo-Saxon Man 1: It is. Go forth and walk His holy steps, new child!
- Norse Man: If his steps go to the market, then so be it. But first... I could go for a nice swim.
Eivor climbed back onto dry land and spoke to the priest.
- Anglo-Saxon Man 1: Thank you for getting that man into the water. We had been waiting for too long! But we are patient. Anyone keen on the teachings of our Lord is welcome. Perhaps...?
Eivor angrily refused.
- Eivor: No.
She walked off thinking to herself.
- Eivor: I have done enough.
Outcome[]
Eivor helped the monks by pushing the man into the water.
