"We're simply delivering a message. However, bear in mind that we have eyes everywhere."
―DedSec to Shimazu Sei, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

DedSec[1] is a hacking collective with a worldwide presence whose goal is to expose and fight corruption, especially among corporations like Abstergo Industries. For this reason it has, occasionally, worked alongside the Assassin Brotherhood, though its members have a strict anonymity policy and only communicate remotely to maintain their identities secret.

History[]

Helping Nathan Zhang[]

"I advise you to refrain from acting out of impulse, Supervisor Shimazu. The control system for your vessel is already under our command. We have the ability to lock you in that room for any suspicious actions... not to mention, the entire ship, if need be."

DedSec contacting Shimazu Sei

At some point, the Assassin Nathan Zhang became acquainted with DedSec, who would subsequently assist him with his operations whenever he called upon them. In 2023, Nathan requested DedSec's aid to rescue Noa Kim from Abstergo's captivity, and the hackers proceeded to breach the security system of the Exitus, the ship Noa was held on.[2]

After making their presence known to Doctor Shimazu Sei by displaying their emblem on a monitor, DedSec warned her not to try anything reckless as the entire ship was under their control. When asked what they wanted from her, the hackers claimed that they were simply delivering a message and proceeded to put Sei into contact with Nathan. After Nathan and Sei negotiated a deal to ensure Noa's safety, DedSec restored control of the Exitus back to Abstergo.[2]

During Noa and Yuki's subsequent mission to recover a crescent amulet – a Piece of Eden – from the Strait of Malacca, DedSec sent a message to Sei on her phone, informing her that Nathan and his men would reach her position shortly.[3] Following Noa and Yuki's successful retrieval of the amulet, they and Sei escaped from Abstergo with Nathan's help, going on the run.[4]

Working with the Assassins[]

"Since you asked, Claire Zhang... we felt that we also have some skin in the game. Our invitation must be in the mail, so we took the liberty of letting ourselves in. I trust you'll understand."
―DedSec to Claire Zhang, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

While Nathan and Noa were hiding on an uncharted island, DedSec sent a message to the former, informing him that Abstergo's Sigma Team had tracked them down and would arrive shortly.[5] Fortunately, Nathan and Noa were able to defeat the Abstergo operatives and escape the island with the help of a group of Assassins sent by Nathan's sister Claire Zhang. As Noa, Nathan, and the Assassins fled the island on the latter's speedboat, Abstergo tried to follow them with a drone, but DedSec remotely shut it down.[6]

During a meeting between Noa, Nathan, Claire, and the Assassins at the Zhawang Corporation's headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia, DedSec breached the building's security system to communicate with the group and observe them on the cameras. After expressing interest in joining the group's fight against Abstergo, Noa proposed an alliance between all those present to save Sei from Abstergo's captivity. One of DedSec's members then proceeded to show Noa and the others footage gathered from Abstergo's internal network, which revealed that Sei had been used as an Animus test subject to uncover the location of a Piece of Eden.[6]

After DedSec suggested that the only way to stop Abstergo was to eliminate Sei so that the Templars would be unable to extract any more information from her, they revealed that Sei was being held at the Abstergo Genetic Research Lab in Osaka, Japan. Noa volunteered to carry out the mission and proceeded to infiltrate the Abstergo laboratory alongside the Assassins, all the while DedSec maintained contact with him.[1]

Once Noa plugged a flash drive into the building's main server, DedSec gained control of the facility and disabled its security system before directing Noa to the room where Sei was located.[1] However, rather than kill the doctor, Noa chose to save her instead and proceeded to escape from the facility with Sei and the Assassins, returning safely to Jakarta.[7]

Behind the scenes[]

DedSec is an organization originating from Watch_Dogs, another video game series developed by Ubisoft. Despite previous statements made by Ubisoft's Head of Assassin's Creed Content Aymar Azaïzia and Watch_Dogs: Legion's Live Producer Lathieeshe Thillainathan that the Assassin's Creed and Watch_Dogs universes were separate continuities and that any crossovers between them were just easter eggs,[8][9][10][11] DedSec would go on to play a major role in the 2023 webtoon Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple, seemingly bringing the two universes closer together.

Connor, Arno, Shay, Edward, Jacob and Evie. Not including Altair and Ezio as they've appeared in other games. Another thing, and I can understand if you cannot answer this, but there are some people who theorize Assassins Creed and Watch dogs are directly connected and exist within the same universe. Do they? Also really loved the movie, excited for more AC!!!
@AymarMtl: Nice questions, I may go with Shay, full fledge next gen game, I love the character, the setting, I would never get tired of naval, and I would love to have more Templar games! Haha, no WD and AC are different universe, despite the fact we are all colleagues from Ubi Mtl and WD is having a few easter eggs. I mean people have theories about every Disney, Tarantino, Pixar movies being part of the same universe. They share references, and elements, but it's not a big multiverse :) Thanks!"
