David "Rez" Alvarez is a senior concept artist at Ubisoft Annecy where he is currently working on future projects for the Assassin’s Creed series after finishing work on Assassin's Creed Revelations in early 2011.

Prior to this he took part in a number of projects at Ubisoft Montreal such as Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Multiplayer and is best known for his concept art on : Castel Gandolfo - San DonatoAlhambra. In 2009 Alvarez worked on Assassin's Creed II as a concept and level artist.

Biography

Alvarez was born on May 14th 1981 in Rhone-Alpes, France. Initially, Alvarez studied commerce at Institut d'Economie scientifique et de Gestion DUT, (1999 – 2001) but upon completing this course he felt that art was his true calling. In 2004, Alvarez enrolled at the Ecole d'art supérieure Emile Cohl where he studied graphic design, art and illustration. During this time he worked freelance for Eden Games on various projects, including a joint university project with Unreal Engine in which he received a distinction. Upon graduating in 2008, Alvarez began his career with Ubisoft where he worked for a year before pursuing other freelance projects. However, Ubisoft were so impressed with his style and art that they actively sought to have him work on their Assassin's Creed series.

  • Alvarez has expert level proficiency with such software as; Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter, Adobe DREAMWEAVER & Flash, Illustrator, Autodesk 3DSMax, Pixologic ZBrush, Autodesk Maya, Adobe After Effects and Premiere.
  • Alvarez got a distinction for his final year project while working jointly with Unreal Engine on the game Test Drive 2. During this time he also gained proficency as an Unreal Game Engine editor.
  • He was one of the artists at Ubisoft to have had their work featured in an international art exhibition.
  • Alvarez is also an award winning sculptor.
