Dark Dealings was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Basim Ibn Ishaq in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5, in which a vision of one of Odin's memories could be seen.
Description[]
Havi was tasked with helping the dwarves trapped in Døkkerland.
Dialogue[]
Upon his descent into Døkkerland, Havi found himself inside a destroyed dwarven home after emerging from a pool of water. He saw a note pinned to a table with a knife.
You've Been Warned
- Dani-
It saddens me, it truly does, that you refuse to let someone more suited for command run Hel's Foundry. By "someone more suited for command", I mean myself. But I haven't given up on your ability to see reason, so I'll be sending over a few Muspel negotiators to help persuade you to my point of view.
- Durf the Defiant
He quickly found the dwarf to whom the letter was addressed, talking with him.
- Dani: (laugh) Welcome, Wanderer, to the home of Dani the Dead One. To my shame, I can't offer better hospitality. My enemy got here first.
- Havi: I am not that wanderer. I am but a simple traveler–
- Dani: Ha! Save it, Havi. I get around. At least, I used to before Durf took over my foundry, locked up my men and cut down my ropes.
- Havi: Ropes?
- Dani: When I ran the foundry, I had rope-lines strung all over Døkkerland. That's how I moved parts so quickly, see? Ropes!
- Havi: Sounds like quite an operation, like you were building an army.
- Dani: I could supply a hundred armies! But what does that matter now that Durf and his paid Muspels have taken everything?
- Havi: Are any of those rope-lines of yours still usable?
- Dani: Not many... but if someone were to free my men, we could string them back up. Get you across Døkkerland in no time.
- Havi: Seems like a reasonable bargain. Where are your men imprisoned?
- Dani: Locked inside the foundry. There are two sets of keys, each carried by a Muspel.
- Havi: So, if I retrieve the keys from the Muspels and free your men, you will repair the rope-lines?
- Dani: If you free my crew, I'll take back the foundry, and, by Durinn, we'll tie more knots than the Nornir.
Before leaving, Havi spoke to Dani again.
- Dani: (missing dialogue)
Havi left and ventured through the region to find the keys first. In the foundry to the left of Dani's house, he saw the Muspels holding the keys.
- Havi: The Muspels here hold the keys to Dani's dwarves.
Taking the keys from the Muspels, Havi moved forward and made it closer to Gardhr Nárjarls. Entering the largest foundry on the right, he infiltrated the area and found Dani's trapped dwarves, heavily guarded by Muspel soldiers.
- Havi: Those must be Dani's dwarves in the cages.
He went to the upper floor of the building and started to slowly take out the guards one by one, finding a note written by Durf in a table full of unfinished machinery.
Set of Keys
- Burn this into your flame-addled brains: If these new sets of keys are lost, I'll ask Hjalmgunnar to beat the cost (and effort) out of your flaming hides. Likewise if any dwarves escape. Each ring holds copies of both sets so you'll have no excuses this time.
- Durf the Defiant
After taking care of the Muspel guards, Havi released the dwarves from their cages strewn across the forges.
- Havi: Something tells me that's the last of them. We'll see if Dani the Dead One makes good on his bargain.
However, he found a dead dwarf and a letter besides him.
Our Hearts Are With You!
- Jár-
You make us proud, you do. You'll have us believin' a few ill-fated turns need not set our course of destiny. If you can break the death-cursed cycle of servitude to find a better afterlife, then maybe we can too!
Seek out other members of your clan, you'll find many cousins throughout this land. That's no slander on your family, not at all, many are here through faults not our own–and some who've even bettered themselves since. There's one I hear who's set up shop and does a brisk business with those who can find him.
Let the flame of hope burn bright!
- Berling, Bildr, Dóri and Horr
Afterwards, Havi left the dwarves mourning their dead and continued on his journey. On the next run through Niflheimr, he found himself back in Døkkerland and met with Dani, who was constructing his burnt home back up.
- Havi: Dani has wasted no time building himself back up. I should remind him of our bargain.
He entered the redecorated interiors of the house and spoke to the dwarf.
- Havi: Congratulations on your prosperity, Dead One. I take it Durf is no longer a problem.
- Dani: Ha, I had him tossed in the lava. It won't kill him for long, but it'll be a slow, painful road back.
- Havi: Speaking of roads, you promised to ease my passage once your position was restored.
As they talked, four Muspel warriors who lurked in the shadows filled the room.
- Dani: Ah, did I? That sounds like the old me. A weak pathetic creature alone in a crumbling home... Dani the Dead One, Foreman of Hel's Foundry, Rigger of Rope-lines, will not be bound by promises!
Dani had betrayed Havi and fled while the four Muspels surrounded him.
- Dani: I could use a warrior like you!
- Havi: You have used me from the start!
Havi killed the Muspels and then confronted Dani.
- Havi: Give me a reason not to toss you in the lava.
- Dani: I needed to make sure it was you and not some imposter riding your reputation. Some people have no honor down there!
- Havi: I have no time to dirty my hands further. You will make good on your bargain or, by Durinn's beard–
- Dani: Of course, of course! And so there's no hard feelings. I'll have my workers do double-shifts at half pay.
- Havi: You do not need to do that.
- Dani: I know, but I can't let them think I've gone soft.
Havi acquired the favor of the open rope-lines.
- Dani: The rope-lines are yours to enjoy. Swing by anytime!
Havi went on to continue his crossing of Døkkerland.
Outcome[]
Havi freed Dani's dwarves and later achieved the permanent favor of open rope-lines.
Behind the scenes[]
From completing this quest, Havi can now access the dwarven merchant Dar inside a crack of the crystal cave before Gardhr Nárjarls.
