The Crystal Palace was a iron-made structure that housed the Great Exhibition in 1851 in Hyde Park, London. Within a matter of years, it was relocated to the southern London.
History[]
Circa 1851, the Crystal Palace held the Great Exhibition while the Aurora Equestrian Troupe was simultaneously performing besides the event. During the troupe's performances, one of its acrobats Pierrette Arnaud took the lead role in a production based on Lord Byron's poem "Mazeppa". However, during her act, she noticed a young woman, Ada Lovelace, being attacked by thugs and saved her, although ruining her performance.[1]
By 1861, the newly relocated Crystal Palace hosted an act held by Charles Blondin, who performed with his daughter. However, his act was received mixed due to the controversy of the endangerment of his young daughter.[2]
In 1936, the Crystal Palace was permanently destroyed by a fire.[3]
