Contact the Rebels was a virtual representation of one of Basim Ibn Ishaq's genetic memories relived through the Animus.
Description[]
Basim travelled to the Upper Harbor to meet Beshi, Ali ibn Muhammad's rebel follower.
Dialogue[]
Basim arrived at the harbor and spotted a dark-skinned man speaking to the rebels.
- Beshi: We are brothers, all. Side by side we stand. And should one man fall, it is the one beside him who picks him up. We have been cut down. Divided. But here we remain. And so long as we draw breath, this fight will continue. So whet your blades. Pray to Allah for his guiding hand. For today, I see a great victory on the horizon.
- Basim: That may be Beshi rallying those men.
Basim approached the man.
- Basim: Are you Beshi?
The rebels, sensing danger, prepared to sheathe their swords.
- Basim: I am with Nur. You knew him, yes?
Beshi signalled for his men to stand down.
- Beshi: I knew him... Last I saw he was being chased from the city. Does he live?
- Basim: Barely. But he is safe.
- Beshi: Stubborn bastard. What do I call you?
- Basim: Basim.
- Beshi: Very well, Basim. Have you a blade other than that butter knife you carry? You may fancy yourself something bigger just now.
- Basim: For what? Are you setting off to find Ali?
- Beshi: Not quite yet. These are only half my men. The rest are being held at the harbor further up the road.
- Basim: There may be too few of us to wage an attack. If you want to save your men, our approach should be a cautious one. I will go, quietly. Have these men lie in wait and escort those we free.
- Beshi: Your kind all think the same way. But it is a sound plan.
Basim made his way to the docks, which was tightly guarded by Caliphate soldiers. Following his plan, Basim sneaked into a warehouse and freed one of the captured rebels.
- Basim: Get to the docks. Find Beshi.
He read on a note on the table.
New Orders
- A complication has arisen in my acquisition of laborers from the West, and I expect to be short on men until the matter is resolved.
For the time being, any rebels you intercept are to be spared and imprisoned. I will orchestrate their removal, use the able-bodied and dispose of them shortly thereafter. Rest assured your compensation will increase.
- Al-Ghul
Basiim freed two more of the rebels.
- Basim: That is the last. I must regroup with them.
He left the docks and met with Beshi and his men near the site.
- Beshi: You are a hound, Basim!
- Basim: I am only doing my part. Together we will see the end of what ails this city.
- Beshi: Look no further than Al-Ghul. The man only spoken of and never seen.
- Basim: What can you tell me about him?
- Beshi: He takes enemies of the Caliphate and makes them dig in the desert. Prisoners. Rebels. Laborers. In search of what, I do not know. These men were captured with Ali weeks ago and were destined to perish beneath the sands.
One of the rescued rebels stepped forward.
- Rebel: Not Ali. He's been taken elsewhere. They marked and separated us. Ali was in another group. They wanted to question him about ...
The rebel turned to face Basim.
- Rebel: You. And your friends.
- Basim: Can you show me this marking?
The rebel used his hand gesture to draw the mark.
- Beshi: What are you thinking?
- Basim: Ali and Nur got close enough to Al-Ghul that he took notice. If we find Ali, he can lead us to Al-Ghul.
- Beshi: It is but one path. There may be another. I will go where these men were being sent to dig and pose as a captive.
- Rebel: Are you mad?
- Beshi: Only stubborn. Here, take this.
Beshi gave Basim a bronze token.
- Basim: What do I do with it?
- Beshi: It is a Khidmah Token. Those who understand its value will do what is in their power to help. I will send these men to regroup at the watermill on the northern outskirs. A rebel stronghold. You are welcome there.
- Basim: Waffaqaka Allah.
- Beshi: Baraka Allah feek. (May God bless you.)
Beshi and the rebels took their leave.
Outcome[]
Basim freed the rebels held at the harbor and learned that Ali's captor went by the alias "Al-Ghul". He also discovered that Al-Ghul used his prisoners to search the desert for something, and that the rebels reconvened at a watermill north of Baghdad.
