"Sparta has its army, and Boeotia has its legends. They're a symbol of what this place used to be."
Stentor[src]

The Champions of Boeotia was a group of Boeotian men and women who had sworn to serve their land, and by their mere presence improved the morale of their compatriots.

History

The champions were each a legendary character, famed for their skills as much among their brethren as among their enemies.

During the Peloponnesian War Stentor, a Spartan polemarch and step-brother of the misthios Kassandra, charged Kassandra to hunt down and kill the Boeotian champions, who had agreed to an alliance with the Athenian forces.[1]

Members

Aristaios, considered both skillful and smart, was in charge of training Athenian troops at the Military Fort of Gla, located in the middle of Lake Kopais.[2]

Drakon, a man believed to be a descendant of Herakles, favored the Gymnasium of Thebes.[3]

Nesaia, a huntress par excellence, preferred the company of the animals within the forests of the Cursed Land of Oedipous to that of men.[4]

Deianeira was also a member of the Heroes of the Cult branch of the Cult of Kosmos.[5]

Trivia

  • In the novel Nesaia is the only member of the group to appear but as an Athenian army captain rather than a Boeotian mercenary.
