Butterflies (Rhopalocera) are insects in the Macrolepidopteran clade Rhopalocera from the order Lepidoptera, which also includes moths.
Butterflies have a four-stage life cycle and go through metamorphosis, starting in a larval form they go into a pupa and emerges as a fully grown butterfly, depending on the type of butterfly it has often brightly coloured wings. Butterflies are distributed worldwide except Antarctica, totalling some 18,500 different species.
History[]
Circa 3rd century BCE, Chinese philosopher Zhuang Zhou wrote a philosophical parable on the nature of reality in the Zhuangzi.[1] He claimed to have dreamt that he was a butterfly, but upon waking up, he was unsure of whether he was a man dreaming of a butterfly or a butterfly dreaming of a man.[2] Zhou's philosophy about the nature of reality was observed by the Isu during their era and recorded in the Oun-mAa Niye Ressoot temple as part of their "Empirical Truth." Circa 48 BCE, the message containing Zhou's philosophy was found by the Medjay Bayek. Unbeknownst to him, the message was intended for Layla Hassan who was reliving his genetic memories in 2017.[2]
In 754 Chang'an, the Flower Banquet festival at Xingqing Palace featured, among acrobatic dancers and jesters, a show of illusionists in which peonies were transformed into butterflies, which then soared in the direction of the Flower and Calyx Pavilion's balcony. There, Yang Yuhuan caught one on her finger and redirected it to the one-eyed delegate of Yang Guozhong, signalling to the announcers that the winner of that year's grand competition for the most beautiful flower exhibit was Guozhong's "Shifting Spring Cage".[3]
