Brass knuckles are a class of melee weapon shaped to fit over the user's knuckles with a view to increasing the force applied through a punch. Due to increasing limitations and regulations regarding weaponry, particularly during the Victorian era, it was considered less acceptable to openly carry arms of any kind, even for personal defense. To balance the need for protection while still abiding by the law, the streets of London saw increased usage of close-combat weapons like brass knuckles.[1]
