Sir Bradley Dacre (died 1297) was an English captain, who served during the English invasion of Scotland.

Biography[]

When he was younger, he was a traveler and ventured the Highlands alone. After barely surviving a bear attack, he was found and healed by a clan of the Children of Fal. Requested of him, Dacre was told to save anyone with the same birthmark as them.[1] In 1296, during the battle of Berwick, he found and saved Ailéas from death. When she awoke and tried to escape his camp, he rushed to find her before a commander checked any closer. However, the commander did not abide Dacre's order thus the captain killed the man and hid the body.[2]

When Ailéas woke up again, Dacre admitted his past and how he is protecting under the Lann Fala, a group of Templar hunters who murdered her clan years earlier. Although she wanted to leave, he convinced her to stay in order to ensure Fillan's safety from her being possibly captured.[1] While she was protected, Dacre argued with her over the invasion being a necessary evil to stop any civil war but she becomes distant. Days passed until Dacre met with his commanders over their plans at Dunbar, until Lann Fala leader Cornavii walked in uninvited. Angered, Dacre relinquished his men to Cornavii, who commandered his men when they arrive in Perth and Scone.[3]

Over time, Dacre soon began teaching Ailéas how to fight despite their contrasting opinions. However, one night, a drunk Dacre apologizes to her over his previous remarks and how the war was wrong especially with the Templars' intervening. He informed her that they are not only looking for her and Fillan but an artifact, to which she admitted of hearing of the Stone of Destiny. While coming to terms, Dacre agreed with her on her departure during the winter where everything, especially war, freezes.[4]

Death[]

When winter arrives, the Lann Fala had left but Dacre has grown ill to the point of coughing up blood. However, he continued to show a strong front to his men and even contacted the Assassins of escorting Ailéas to them and how Fillan has joined them. Initially angry, she thanked him and waited for further instructions.[5] However, while in his tent, he was soon found by Fillan and shocked at his arrival. Quickly, he was killed by Fillan, whom he mentioned had the same eyes as her.[6] Fortunately, Fillan and Ailéas reunited after fighting off a Lann Fala soldier left to kill Dacre. Before leaving, she left a kiss on Dacre for all he had done. From his death, Fillan also concluded and told his fellow Assassins of a traitor within the Brotherhood, due to Dacre being falsely targeted.[7]
