Binding Fate was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan in 2020 through the Portable Animus HR-8.5, in which a vision of one of Odin's memories could be seen.
Description
Havi met with Týr in Asgard after his return from Jötunheimr to constrain Fenrir.
Dialogue
Havi returned to Asgard from Jötunheimr and arrived at the base of Heimdall's Tower, where he was greeted by the dwarven blacksmith Ivaldi.
Ivaldi handed the cord to Havi and gave him a hard stare as he realized Havi was missing his left eye.
- Ivaldi: I'll wager there's a good story behind that wound.
- Havi: A tale for another time. Thank you for this.
- Ivaldi: When you bind the beast, spare no loose ends. The cord will stretch or shrink to fit your needs.
- Havi: How tightly will it hold? The beast may resist.
- Ivaldi: The more you tighten the cord, the stronger it will hold and the greater it will hurt, 'til the beast is rooted to the ground.
Havi nodded in understanding.
- Havi: Thank you, Ivaldi. You may go.
Ivaldi paused before hesitatingly asking his question.
- Ivaldi: You mean from Asgard, do you not? My debt to you is paid in full?
Ivaldi awkwardly scratched his head.
- Havi: Yes, as promised.
Ivaldi was stunned.
- Ivaldi: Thank you, Havi. I... I did not expect you to remember.
Havi nodded.
- Havi: Where will you go next?
- Ivaldi: Under the mountains of Svartálfaheimr. Our mountains. To free the earth's riches, for this is what I know best.
Ivaldi snapped at him.
- Ivaldi: At least we trade in goods, not people, Slave Master. I'll be glad to be back underground, away from these angry skies.
Ivaldi turned and walked in the direction of another big door on the side of the cliff, then immediately disappeared, teleporting himself to his destination. Havi then proceeded to ride over the Bifröst to reach Lyngvi, when lightning struck the ground.
- Havi: Even thunder's fury won't weaken my will.
Havi reached the island and shouted in search of Týr.
- Havi: Týr! Are you near?
He eventually spotted his counselor, who immediately noticed his missing eye.
- Týr: Havi! You are a balm to my eyes... what happened to yours?
- Havi: A sacrifice for something greater. Is the wolf nearby?
- Týr: Yes, but he's grown. I have kept him company, but he is consumed by a sadness I cannot understand.
- Havi: Regrettable, but necessary. I knew from the start this wolf brought ill tidings.
Týr interjected.
- Týr: From the start, it was a kind creature. But our mistrust and cruelty have robbed the poor wolf of its sweetness and life.
- Havi: Would it be a kindness to kill it then?
His friend shook his head.
- Týr: We are past the time for such mercy. This wolf has power now that would test our strengths combined. I fear he is possessed of a power that renders him... ever-living.
Havi took the cord from his back.
- Havi: Then we will offer him a different fate. This cord is unbreakable. You must convince him to wear it. It will act as a leash whose magic will signal that he is safely secured. An assurance to the Æsir who fear him. A beacon, that is all. No harm will befall the poor Fenrir.
Týr looked at Havi distrustfully and turned his back.
- Týr: Fenrir, yes. You know the creature's name. Did Loki tell you?
Havi walked to his side and touched Týr's shoulder.
- Havi: He did. It is a fine name.
- Týr: Yes, Dweller of the Fens. An apt name for his current fate.
The two walked to the centre of the island, facing a cavern filled with bones at its entrance.
- Týr: Fenrir! A good word has come!
A menacing voice emerged from the cave.
- Fenrir: Leave me.
- Týr: I wish you well, Great Wolf. But a fear still hangs over Asgard. The Æsir worry about your growing size and strength!
A giant scarred wolf exited the cave.
- Fenrir: Do they now...?
As Fenrir grew closer to them and smashed some bones with his paws, they gradually stepped back.
- Fenrir: And what have they to be afraid of, old friend?
- Týr: Havi brings a collar fashioned by the dwarves. A beacon that we may track from a distance, to know where you roam. Wear this and you may live and thrive in Asgard without worry.
Fenrir stepped closer and Týr raised his hand.
- Fenrir: I smell something... sour.
- Havi: Wear the collar or return to Jotunheimr. There's no third way.
Týr touched Havi, gently pushing him back and calmly faced Fenrir.
- Týr: Son of Loki, have I not treated you with kindness? We are bonded, you and I. And as I trust my king, so you may trust me.
He looke to Havi and touched Fenrir in the face, who had beggining to calm down.
- Týr: Open your mouth. As a pledge of faith, you may take my hand if I am untrue.
The wolf opened his mouth and held Týr's right arm with his teeth.
- Fenrir: Fair.
- Týr: Be swift, Havi.
Havi picked up on the rope and passed it over Fenrir's neck. As he laced it, the cord emitted a gold glow and adjusted itself to his body. He started to move his mouth, leaving Týr uncomfortable.
- Fenrir: It burns!
- Týr: Havi?
Týr tried to pull out his hand but was prevented by Fenrir.
- Fenrir: Lies!
Týr locked desperatly to Havi.
- Týr: Unbind him!
As Havi shook his head, Fenrir lifted Týr in the air.
- Týr: Havi!
- Havi: Here you stay, Fen-Dweller.
Fenrir shook his body in the air, ripping off Týr's arm and casting him into a rock. Fenrir walked into the center of the clearing, spat Týr's arm into the ground, and approached Havi ominously.
- Fenrir: Here you die, Deceiver!
Fenrir started attacking Havi, charging in his direction and dodging his attacks.
- Fenrir: Brothers will fight one another... kill one another...
- Havi: You speak in riddles?
- Fenrir: The home of the gods turns red... red with gore...
As Havi began hitting Fenrir's legs, the skies turned red and lightning struck the ground. Fenrir dug a hole in the dirt and began hitting Havi from below. Eventually, Havi stunned Fenrir, gaining an opening to bind Fenrir's chest.
- Fenrir: It will be an age of storms... an age of wolves...
- Havi: Where did you hear these words of prophecy?
Fenrir grabbed a stick of wood and tried to hit Havi with it. When this proved unsuccessful, he started to run in circles, generating a tornado. Eventually, Havi stunned Fenrir again, managing to bind his torso to the cord.
- Fenrir: Then comes the second great sorrow... when the Havi goes to fight the wolf...
- Havi: How do you know these things?
- Fenrir: This is the tale I tell myself each night in the cold and dark, before I sleep and dream of tasting your flesh.
Fenrir then proceeded to dig rocks from the ground and throwing them at Havi. At last, Havi gained the upper hand on Fenrir, binding his legs with the rest of his body before using the last of Gleipnir to muzzle the wolf.
Outcome
Havi bound Fenrir with Gleipnir, causing Týr to lose his arm.
Behind the scenes
Even if players made Havi keep Ivaldi prisoner, he is still depicted in the 2022 downloadable expansion Dawn of Ragnarök as having returned to Svartálfaheimr some time after this memory, indicating that the blacksmith gained his freedom one way or another.
