They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Beastmaster. This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias. |
The Beastmaster was a Norse hermit in England during the 9th century.
Biography[]
The man nicknamed the Beastmaster lived in a cave in Essex together with a bear. Mostly keeping to his own, he often fed the wild animals in the area. Some locals interpreted this as the Beastmaster commanding the wild animals to attack citizens. Deciding it had gone on long enough, an angry mob led by a monk gathered outside the cave to kill him. The Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan encountered this mob gathering strength outside the cave, and the monk requested that Eivor kill the Beastmaster. After she went into the cave and talked to him, she learned he had not actually done any harm. To avoid the mob hurting him, she lured some wolves towards the mob to disperse them.[1]
