Barbados is a sovereign island country in the Lesser Antilles, and a former overseas territory of the United Kingdom.
Up until his conversion to piracy in 1717, the Barbadian merchant Stede Bonnet was a moderately wealthy landowner on the island, controlling a fair number of sugar plantations. Bonnet would often transport his crops to nearby cities such as Havana.
During the mid 18th century, the Grandpré business sent ships to Barbados' capital, Bridgetown, to import and export several goods.
