The legendary Assassins memorialized in the Sanctuary are not to be referred to as "proto-Assassins"—as no source has ever called them by this term, it has only been assumed by fans. Strict adherence to sources means that even though some of the may have preceded the Hidden Ones, we still maintain that they were still referred to as Assassins for whatever reason in Ezio's time. (Which would also be consistent with Dynasty's premise of Assassin being a mantle.)
