Plot

The Chair

1791: Haiti. General Rouxel oversees the execution of Dutty Boukman wielding a book of interest to the Assassins. Elsie, an Assassin observing the proceedings can no longer wait for Fabien to arrive as support and moves to save Boukman and claim the book. However, Fabien stops her, informing Elsie that the Brotherhood has new orders which say the execution must go ahead and that the book can be collected later. Outraged, Elsie threatens Fabien's life.

2016: Mexico City. Reliving Elsie's memories at an Assassin safehouse, Charlotte de la Cruz is thrown out of the Animus early, before she can see what becomes of Elsie and Fabien or gain access to the information in the book. Frustrated, she waits for Kody to make the necessary repairs to the Animus, which he has named Red Rider, and the pair discuss their roles in the Brotherhood and their respective importance to the cause. When Red Rider is fixed, Kody informs Charlotte as returns to the Animus that sometimes patience is what needs to be done.

1791: Fabien echoes Kody's sentiments, talking Elsie down by urging patience and referencing William Wallace as a man whose death inspired people to fight for Scotland's freedom. Elsie begrudgingly accepts that saving Boukman will not end slavery and backs off but insists that Boukman's death will not be vain. Observing through the Animus, Charlotte tells Elsie that Boukman will inspire a full revolution.

Great Wall

1927: Chekiang (Zhejiang) province, China. One evening, a local finds a car parked across the train tracks and asks its driver if he needs assistance. The Templar Black Cross steps out explaining that he's all right and the two discuss the approaching train, "Great Wall", which is carrying White Russian soldiers to fight for Zhang Zongchang against Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalists.

Their conversation is interrupted by the armored train's arrival and Black Cross advises the Chinese local to make his leave. TNT in the back of Black Cross' car explodes, giving the Templar time to infiltrate the train. Realizing that they're under attack, the train is thrown into reverse while Black Cross finds his target in their leader, Yuri Dolinsky, a former Templar who has turned on the order for allowing the Assassin Nikolai Orelov to kill his father.

Caring only about the man using a Templar built train in opposition to the order's interests, Black Cross moves on Dolinsky. However, the Russian is an accomplished duelist who gloats that his Great Wall moves and keeps out enemies in all directions. Black Cross gets his opening when the train suddenly brakes, throwing Dolinsky to the floor; he had already cut the tracks in the opposite direction.

Nationalist soldiers storm the stranded train and find Dolinsky's body with a Templar cross cut into his flesh.
