Assassin's Creed: The Engine of History is a series of novels,[1] about the titular device and the efforts of the Assassins and Templars during their covert war to seize it and influence human history. The first installment The Magus Conspiracy written by Kate Heartfield was released in August 2022,[2] its sequel The Resurrection Plot, also written by Heartfield, released in July 2023.[3]

Development[]

The first novel was announced in June 2022 as part of the 15th anniversary celebrations for the Assassin's Creed series. In an interview with community developer Sebasteann Barradas, author Kate Heartfield revealed more about the novel including the fact that was to be the first of a trilogy. Heartfield's inspiration came from the rise of political assassinations in the 19th century, something that could easily fit into an Assassin's Creed storyline.[4] It was officially released on 2 August in the United States and 8 September for the United Kingdom.[2]

On 16 August, news of a sequel first came an interview Kate had with Ubisoft celebrating the release of The Magus Conspiracy's release. At the end of discussions on the book's characters and their motives, Kate revealed that she had officially been signed on for a sequel and mentioned how she and her editors had talked about what the series' whole story arc would look like to have an idea of what could happen going forward. An outline had already been created by press time, and she hinted that some characters in the first book would reappear in the then-unnamed novel.[5] Three days later, Kate officially announced the title of The Resurrection Plot on Twitter.[6] On 29 August, in an interview with The Baunfire Gaming Podcast, Heartfield revealed that the second novel was tentatively slated for release between July to August 2023, similar to the series' first entry.[7] On 23 August 2024, Heartfield revealed on Twitter that the publisher had no current plans for a third book in the series.[8]

I can't speak for the publisher as it's their call, but as far as I know, they don't have any further books planned for the series at the moment -- so there's nothing in the works to tell you about. If that changes, I'll shout it out!" (screenshot)
