In its alpha stages of testing, which lasted from 15–22 December, the game was referred to as Codename: Explore. It was during this week that nearly an hour of gameplay footage was leaked on 18 December, showing almost complete introductory missions, some open-world exploration, and the ability for players to both decide the protagonist's gender, much like Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, as well as customize their appearance.[5]The game's first closed beta tests required signing up to join and lasted from 3–11 August 2023.[6]
The game was officially announced and introduced as Assassin's Creed: Jade at Gamescom 2023, where developers added that a second beta test was expected in the future.[7]
In March 2024, GameSpot reported that the game had been delayed further into 2025, as developer Tencent is prioritizing easy to play mobile games locally developed rather than massively spanning foreign IPs. The issue of monetization was brought up as a possible reason for the shift in strategy.[8]
