Plot synopsis[]
As Suluese soldiers approach a despondent Edward Kenway, Nagamasa and his mercenaries quickly cut them down, saving the Assassin. Nagamasa explains that they have been sent by Shimazu Saito, who is currently busy fighting Jeong's fleet alongside the rest of the Fenghuang's crew. As the mercenaries prepare to retreat back to their ship, Edward agrees to join them, and the mercenaries also drag John Young onto the ship, leaving Xialun Qing's body behind.
Meanwhile, aboard Jeong's vessel, Xiao Han places the crescent amulet in a chest to prevent its power from corrupting him. With the artifact in their possession, Jeong prepares to deliver it to Madam Lee while Liu Qing comments on the admiral's earlier bombardment, asking what kind of "bloodthirsty maniac" opens fire on their own allies. Suddenly, Xue Yan lashes out at Xiao Han, reprimanding him for breaking the Creed by murdering Qing, an innocent doctor, and questioning if this is the "righteous cause" he has spoken of.
Furious, Xiao Han tells Xue Yan that she can leave the Chinese Brotherhood if her faith in their cause is shaken so easily, and grabs her by her collar. In response, Xue Yan reminds Xiao Han of the day he rescued her from the life of an outcast and recruited her into the Brotherhood, and remarks that her Mentor is no longer that same kind man. A remorseful Xiao Han lets go of Xue Yan before Liu Qing tells him that, while both he and Xue Yan still believe in his cause, it is possible that their obsession with it made them lose sight of what had brought them together in the first place. He then suggests discussing the matter on the voyage back home.
As the Fenghuang and Nagamasa's ship sail away from Sulu, John quietly mourns Qing's death, telling himself that he should have perished instead. Meanwhile, Edward ponders why the amulet deceived him with "false visions" of the future, and questions what is the point of his and his companions' struggles if the future is already set in stone. Suddenly, he experiences another vision, showing a spherical Piece of Eden and a golden temple.
In the present, Yuki informs Shimazu Sei of the Piece's location: the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar. As Sei remarks that Myanmar is in the midst of a civil war, which will likely hinder their mission, Nathan Zhang tells her that Abstergo has tracked them down and dispatched Sigma Team to capture them. Fortunately, thanks to a false tip, the Abstergo agents are currently raiding a different building across the street, giving them enough time to evacuate the safehouse.
Sei wakes up Noa Kim and gives him an adrenaline shot before ordering him to follow her lead. Nathan remarks that Sei is beginning to sound more and more like Saito, to which Sei claims that she disliked having her memories mix with her ancestor's. However, if this will allow her to succeed in her mission, she is willing to use anything she has at her disposal. With that, the group leaves the safehouse and prepares for their journey to Myanmar.

After waking up Noa, Sei tells him to "come with [her] if [he wants] to live." This is a reference to a recurring line from the Terminator film franchise, first said by Kyle Reese to Sarah Connor in The Terminator (1984).
