Plot synopsis[]
Inside Fort San Pedro, Rajah's men begin killing the surrendering Spanish soldiers, much to the horror of the civilians who helped the rebels infiltrate the fort. Several civilians try to protest against the captive soldiers' execution, but a rebel claims that is the only path towards freedom and orders the civilians to head inside for their protection. Just then, Rajah arrives and orders his men to execute the civilians as well, claiming they are traitors to their cause for siding with the Spanish colonists.
A rebel tries to protest, only for Rajah to promptly kill him with his kampilan. Another rebel, terrified by what he just witnessed, questions Rajah about his actions, asking his leader why he is executing their brother-in-arms. The Visayan chief takes this as a sign that this rebel is also a "traitor" and kills him as well. As he slowly descends into insanity due to the crescent amulet's corrupting influence, Rajah begins to kill all of his men who question his methods, viewing them all as "traitors".
Meanwhile, Rupiya and Yun Pyeong-Gyu sail the Fenghuang closer to Fort San Pedro so it will be in range of their cannons, intending a salvo to be enough of a distraction to allow Edward Kenway, Shimazu Saito, and John Young to infiltrate the stronghold by flying in the Celestial Chariot. Unfortunately, the rebels spot the balloon in the sky early and open fire on it with their guns, but the bullets fail to reach it. Edward then drops several anchors to keep the Celestial Chariot in place, and he and Saito use the ropes as ziplines to descend to the ground while John remains inside the balloon to provide covering fire.
Once inside the fort, Edward and Saito find themselves surrounded by rebels, prompting the Assassin followed by Saito to charge head-first in their direction. After escaping from the rebels, the pair find Rajah surrounded by his warriors' corpses. As Edward remarks that Rajah has lost all traces of humanity, the Visayan chief claims he will gladly sacrifice his humanity to prevent the terrible future he has foreseen and prepares to fight Edward and Saito.
