Plot synopsis[]
Captaining the Fenghuang together, John Young and Rupiya sink Rajah's fleet, much to the Visayan chief's ire. Meanwhile, the Spanish soldiers open fire on Rajah and his men at the Cebu harbor, leaving the resistance fighters at an impasse. Just then, a firework is set off, signaling the successful infiltration of Fort San Pedro by Rajah's warriors. The Visayan chief orders his men to head towards the fort in order to rejoin their brethren, claiming that they will await the arrival of a getaway ship there.
While Rajah and his men make their escape, Edward Kenway and Shimazu Saito also manage to flee the harbor by jumping into the water. After boarding the Fenghuang, Edward congratulates John for his quick thinking which saved their lives, before ordering the crew to follow the resistance fighters. Sailing to Fort San Pedro, the Zhang Wei Union members look for ways to infiltrate it but are unable to find any. John suggests using the ship's mortars to attack the fort from afar, but Edward does not want to risk destroying the crescent amulet in the bombardment.
Just then, Yun Pyeong-Gyu comes up with a solution and unveils a second prototype of the Celestial Chariot he has built. After Yun explains that the improved balloon can carry up to three people at once, John refuses to board it, only for Edward to drag him into the balloon's basket, where Saito joins them. Edward then devises a plan to infiltrate the fort and instructs the remaining crew to fire on its walls with their cannons, reasoning that the resulting commotion will allow him, Saito, and John to slip into the stronghold and recover the amulet.
With all the preparations complete, the Celestial Chariot is about to take off when John suddenly notices that the balloon has no steering mechanism. Terrified, he asks Yun about it, to which the engineer reveals that he did not have time to install one. Having heard enough, John attempts to disembark the Celestial Chariot but it is too late. The balloon lifts off the ground and takes Edward, Saito, and John above Fort San Pedro to commence their infiltration plan.
