Plot summary[]
The cannonball strikes a small boat, killing the ninja, while Edward Kenway and the local man escape by diving into the water. John Young is revealed to be the one who fired the cannonball, having stolen a Dutch East India Company ship, and helps Edward and the local man aboard. John explains that he decided to continue his adventures with Edward, feeling their time together will be well worth it in the end, and they depart into the sea after the masked leader of the ninja looses an arrow at them. While at sea, Edward sees the port on high alert as John mentions Hendrik kept a sea log that may contain useful information. While Edward is lost on a place to dock, the man he saved offers to take them to a safe place to hide as a sign of gratitude.
Traveling south of Macau, they all arrive at a village where the locals welcome them and allow them to stay for the time being. After making a stop, Edward and John go out into the wilderness to hunt for food. Edward sees a deer and quickly shoots it. After skinning the animal, Edward severs its two legs and tells John that the body will be used as bait, then strings a bloody leg to a tree. They wait until an alligator takes the bait and Edward immediately kills it with his Hidden Blade, then repeats the process using the other leg. Back at the village, he shares his gains with the village as a gift for their hospitality. However, during the feast, a woman cries out for help with her daughter, who's quite ill, catching their attention.
In the present, Noa Kim recognizes that the girl in the memory is suffering from cholera and wants to help, but his instincts create a desynchronization error and the Animus electrocutes him.
