Plot synopsis[]
Having seemingly succumbed to the Bleeding Effect, Noa Kim believes himself to be Edward Kenway and mistakes Shimazu Sei for Shimazu Saito, asking her to tell him where he is. As a terrified Sei orders her team to initiate the breakdown protocol, she tries to help Noa return to his senses, only for him to pin her against the wall. Suddenly, Noa begins to chuckle, revealing that he was just playing a prank. However, Sei is not amused and slaps Noa before returning him to his room, where she reprimands him for treating everything like a joke.
Noa retorts that Abstergo Industries had kidnapped him and are using him as a guinea pig, so they have no right to get angry at him because they're nothing more than a bunch of criminals. Sei, visibly hurt by Noa's words, agrees to leave him alone and, as she departs, she tells him that she was never worried about him in the first place.
Now alone in his room, Noa is approached by a hallucination of Edward, who praises him for acting like a true Kenway. When Noa asks if "Edward" is there to take over his body, the Assassin explains that he is just a fragment of a long-forgotten memory, but that could change if Noa ever loses his willpower. Noa then asks why "Edward" cannot simply tell him the location of the artifact Abstego is looking for, to which the Assassin tells him that Noa has not accessed that memory yet so he will have to put in the work to find it himself.
"Edward" then decides to ask Noa some questions of his own, inquiring what the teen hopes to achieve by helping Abstergo. After Noa claims that he has no other choice if he wants to live, "Edward" points out that Noa does not seem to care much about life and that he had a chance to escape but refused to take it. Noa then admits that he hopes to find out who he truly is, as he never felt he belonged anywhere and seeing how much freedom Edward had made him wish to be more like him. Satisfied with the answer, "Edward" vanishes as Noa vows to follow him until the very end.
Elsewhere, Sei contacts an unknown Templar superior to inform him that in order to continue tracking Edward's memories, they will have to physically trace his movements by sailing to the Philippines. The Templar reminds Sei of the importance of her mission and warns her not to leave any more loose ends like the criminals who attacked her in the A-Ma Cultural Village, whom Abstergo has yet to identify. He also reminds Sei that the Templars have always viewed the Shimazu clan with suspicion and that this mission is Sei's only chance to prove that her family still has value to the Order. Before ending the call, the Templar informs Sei that he has assigned Sigma Team to serve as her backup in case she encounters more trouble in Cebu.
Determined to succeed in her mission at all costs, Sei prepares for the voyage to the Philippines, revealing that her laboratory was located aboard an Abstergo research vessel, the Exitus, all along. As the ship leaves Macau's harbor, a Zhawang Corporation operative informs the company's director Claire Zhang of Sei's movements. Claire orders the agent to report back once he is certain of the ship's destination, only for the agent's phone to be snatched away by Nathan Zhang, leader of the Doom Eagle criminal organization, who asks Claire to let him and his gang handle Noa's rescue. Claire reluctantly concedes but orders Nathan to keep a low profile.
