Plot synopsis[]
The members of the Zhang Wei Union read the contents of Hendrik's sea log they managed to decipher. They learn that, in order to find Angkor's treasure, Hendrik investigated the story of Ferdinand Magellan, who in 1521 arrived on Cebu to search for a Piece of Eden. After converting the island's native population to Christianity, he was able to find the artifact but was informed by Cebu's chieftain Rajah Humabon that the relic was just one of several Pieces. When Magellan attempted to seize one of the other Pieces from the neighboring Mactan Island, the island's leader Lapu-Lapu used the artifact's power to kill Magellan and defeat his Spanish troops.
Learning that Hendrik acquired this information from a monk at the Basilica del Santo Niño and with no other leads, the Zhang Wei Union members decide to do the same thing Hendrik had done and follow in Magellan's footsteps to find Angkor. As Edward Kenway declares to Shimazu Saito and Yun Pyeong-Gyu that their next destination is the Philippines, John Young, who was seemingly asleep, secretly overhears their conversation.
In preparation for their journey, Yun creates a suit of armor for Saito, including a retractable kunai similar to a Hidden Blade, and a new blowpipe for Edward. After Xialun Qing reveals that she used her medical knowledge to create the poison darts for the blowpipe, Edward decides to bring her along for the voyage. Speaking with Zhang, Edward trusts him to lead the Zhang Wei Union during their absence before boarding the Fenghuang alongside John, Saito, Yun, Qing, and Rupiya and leaving Macau. As they do so, they are spied on by a Far East Company man who reports back to Alan Jacob. Alan reveals his plan to have Edward lead him straight to Angkor and orders his man to follow the Assassin closely behind.
In the present, Shimazu Sei orders that Noa Kim be removed from the Animus as they will need additional information about Edward's activities after leaving Macau to continue tracking his memories. As Noa awakens, however, he appears to have succumbed to the Bleeding Effect, believing himself to be Edward and mistaking Sei for Saito.
