Plot synopsis[]
Sun's guests—his nephew Xiao Han and his fellow warriors Liu Qing and Xue Yan—arrive at the floating gambling hall and meet with him. On a ship outside, Shimazu Saito wakes up on the deck before throwing up seawater. Across from her, Edward Kenway greets her before revealing that he saved her from drowning. Saito immediately tries to attack Edward but he slams her onto the deck, activates his Hidden Blade, and stabs at Saito.
On Sun's ship, John Young, posing as Edward, continues to gorge down on the ship's refreshments and food before drinking a hangover cure created by female server Xialun Qing. John begins to flatter Qing and even nears in for a kiss before being disrupted by ruckus outside their room. He looks over and sees the staff being attacked by Fuma Sukuna's ninja. Readying his pistol, John tells Qing to hide while he runs off to find Edward.
Saito watches as Edward's blade strikes to the left of her head. The Assassin lets Saito go and explains that he has no intention to take her life despite her contract to assassinate him. Hesitating, Saito attacks Edward with a fury and accuses him of showing her mercy only because of her womanhood. She then threatens him with her sword while demanding to know the real reason he spared her. Edward admits that she reminds him of an old friend who, like Saito, hid her true gender and never stopped fighting for what she believed in, despite all the hardships she faced.
Briefly taken aback by the answer, Saito asks Edward why he is so willing to ally with her. He explains that they are both after the same artifact and that working together will increase their chances of finding it. Still distrustful of Edward, Saito agrees to the truce only until they recover the treasure. Edward then asks for Hendrik's sea log, to which Saito reveals that she gave it to Sun as compensation for her subordinates' protection. The pair decide to retrieve it and run towards Sun's ship after hearing gunshots, indicating the log may be in jeopardy.
Meanwhile, Sun shows the sea log to Xiao Han and states that none of the cryptography experts he hired could decipher it. Xiao Han is familiar with the language as it has been passed down from their people, but claims it will take time to decode it. Ecstatic, Sun takes back the sea log while Xiao Han asks his uncle what he intends to do with the treasure the log will lead them to. Sun claims that an artifact of "Those Who Came Before" is not to be trifled with and reveals his intention to give it to the Qing Emperor in return for a reward.
Although Sun claims that Xiao Han's people will be pardoned once the Emperor learns of their assistance, his nephew is unhappy with the answer. He uses a rope dart to snatch the sea log back from Sun and reprimands him for being the Emperor's lapdog. While Liu Qing and Xue Yan remove their disguises, Xiao Han declares his uncle to be an enemy to their long-standing creed and prepares to execute Sun in the name of the Assassin Brotherhood.
