Plot synopsis[]
At Abstergo Industries' field camp, the company's scientists are panicking after having lost contact with Sigma Team, most of which has been killed, leaving only the operatives who managed to enter the Forgotten Temple. The team's commander requests an update on the members' status and is told that the operatives are on their way to the core of the temple, having taken an elevator to the lower levels of the complex. The commander picks up a walkie-talkie and instructs the operatives to continue their advance, claiming reinforcements will be sent shortly.
At that moment, however, the Assassins commence their attack on the camp, dispatching the guards outside before entering the main tent. They throw a smoke grenade into the room, blinding the scientists and allowing the Assassins to swiftly incapacitate them. The commander demands to know the assailants' identities, just as the Assassin leader runs towards him with his Hidden Blade drawn. Recognizing the signature weapon of the Assassin Brotherhood, the commander can only scream in shock before he is killed.
The massacre is heard over the walkie-talkie by the Sigma operatives inside the Forgotten Temple. One of them suggests heading back, but the squad's leader insists that all that matters is that they complete their mission, as the Father of Understanding is counting on them. Now on their own, the operatives continue their descent into the temple, determined to reach its core and seize control of the complex.
Meanwhile, in a different part of the temple, Noa Kim and Shimazu Sei are observing the site's unusual architecture when DedSec contacts them to provide an update. They have determined that the temple is split into three main areas, each of them leading to the core, and that Noa and Sei are currently in the northern part of the complex. They have also learned about the elevator in the center, which they are unable to stop, though they can still control certain parts of the temple's infrastructure, opening a pathway for Noa and Sei. Noa asks Sei to head to the core without him, claiming he must take a detour first. Sei deduces what he is up to and agrees to part ways for now.
Elsewhere, "John Young" continues to watch as Alan Jacob and his men fight against the temple's guardians until one of the stone statues throws a spear at him, destroying part of the platform John is standing on and causing him to fall right behind the East India Company soldiers. Alan turns to confront the turncoat, only for John to pull out his golden pistol and remind Alan that he was never in the service of the Templars.
With the Grand Master at his mercy, John proposes a truce, remarking that the Templars will never reach the core without his artifact while he could use the Company's extra manpower. Alan reluctantly accepts the proposal and orders his men to stand down, just as a giant stone guardian appears in front of them. Before the beast can attack them, "Edward Kenway" arrives and cuts off one of its limbs with his sword, shocking both Alan and John.
