Plot synopsis[]
As Xiao Han informs Liu Qing and Xue Yan of a secret passage leading to the heart of the Forgotten Temple, the three Chinese Assassins are stalked by a giant Naga statue. Before it can attack them, the statue is destroyed by a volley of cannon fire, signaling Madam Lee's arrival. While her forces stand guard outside, Lee accompanies the Assassins into the temple, where the latter tie ropes around their waists to facilitate their descent.
As Lee helps Xiao Han with his rope, she reminds him that she has just as much at stake as the Assassins, claiming that their very survival depends on their mission's success. Xiao Han assures her that he will not fail and jumps down a shaft with his fellow Assassins. The ropes break their fall, allowing the trio to land safely at the bottom and commence their journey into the temple. Meanwhile, Lee and the Nguyễn clan's general prepare to stand their ground against the approaching guardians, intending to defend the temple for as long as possible.
Elsewhere, Claire Zhang continues to observe the ongoing events while trying to locate her brother Nathan, whom she lost track of after he was overtaken by John Young's memories. Near the Forgotten Temple, "John" and his troop of grenadiers come face-to-face with a giant stone golem blocking their path, as well as several pagodas with mounted guns that open fire on them. During the chaos, one of the pagodas is destroyed, revealing a golden pistol housed within.
John, feeling drawn to the pistol, grabs it and blindly shoots at the golem, instantly destroying it. While the grenadiers are left speechless, John realizes that his artifact allows him to control the enhanced pistol, meaning he has just as much claim to the temple's power as the others. He then considers abandoning the grenadiers, thinking they will just get in his way, but is interrupted by a shot from one of the mounted guns. John tries to retaliate with a shot of his own, but his pistol refuses to fire.
While trying to dodge the incoming gunfire, John accidentally trips on a rock and hits one of the Forgotten Temple's outer walls. The complex reacts to his touch and opens a doorway, granting John access to the temple. Meanwhile, the remaining grenadiers run for cover and call out to John, asking him to use his pistol to destroy the mounted guns that have them pinned down. They warn him that, if he walks away now, he will be branded a traitor to the Templar cause, but John is unmoved by their words. After declaring that he has his own mission to accomplish and that nothing else matters, he walks into the temple, leaving the defenseless grenadiers to their fate.
