Plot synopsis[]
As the East India Company forces under Alan Jacob's command bombard the area around the Forgotten Temple with cannon fire, "John Young" manages to evade the incoming projectiles. He soon comes across a troop of grenadiers dispatched by Alan to find and assist John. The grenadiers' captain transfers command of his men to John and reminds him of the consequences of failing the Grand Master before leaving. An exasperated John laments the situation he has found himself in, but is determined to carry on for the sake of Xialun Qing.
Elsewhere, the Company's cannon fire hits Xiao Han's elephant, causing it to turn back into a Humvee, which falls over a Sigma Team operative. As the operative struggles under the vehicle's weight, the crescent amulet's power consumes him and transforms him into Xiao Han. The Assassin then frees himself, grabs the amulet, and begins to make his way towards the Forgotten Temple.
Approaching one of the temple's towers, Xiao Han is suddenly joined by Liu Qing and Xue Yan, who have come to help their Mentor. After Xiao Han remarks that Xue Yan should be guarding Madam Lee, she explains that the businesswoman personally sent her to help the Mentor, not wishing to see him risk his life "playing the hero". Xue Yan then assures Xiao Han that Lee is well-protected by the Nguyễn clan's forces under her command and intends to repel the East India Company's troops and buy the Chinese Assassins enough time to retrieve the Forgotten Temple's treasure.
As both Xue Yan and Liu Qing declare their intentions to accompany Xiao Han until the very end and make sure the temple's treasure is kept out of the wrong hands, the Mentor thanks them for their loyalty. The trio then mount their horses and ride towards the temple.
Elsewhere, "Edward Kenway" and "Shimazu Saito" reunite after having run off in different directions to take refuge from the earlier bombardment. Edward remarks that he has not seen so much destruction since North Carolina while Saito informs him of John's escape. At that moment, Claire Zhang contacts Noa Kim via his earpiece, allowing him to recover from the Bleeding Effect that caused Edward's personality to momentarily overtake his own. Claire informs Noa of the Abstergo agents making their way towards the temple with the third artifact, which will allow them to seize control of the complex.
Claire instructs Noa and Shimazu Sei to focus on the Abstergo agents and prevent them from reaching the temple, only for Sei to point out the Chinese Assassins who are also heading towards the complex. Noa/Edward and Sei/Saito decide to run after them, only to be stopped by a giant Singha statue. Edward tries shooting it with his pistol, but it is ineffective and the colossal statue hits him, sending him flying into a tree.
After recovering from the strike, the Assassin ponders how to possibly fight the seemingly indestructible creature. Just then, he notices a glow coming from a smaller statue nearby, which houses a golden sword of similar design to the Pieces of Eden. Edward promptly grabs the sword and prepares to put it to use against the statue blocking his and Saito's path.
