Arman (died 867) was a member of the Order of the Ancients in Constantinople.
Biography[]
In 867, working under his leader Isaac, Arman followed Isaac's plan with Emperor Basil I's blessing to invade the emperor's palace and assassinate their targets, Basil's son Leo and his nurse Anna. Arman and other members of the Order infiltrated the palace easily because the children's wing guards were poisoned by their inside man Theodore, Leo's tutor. At one point, Arman almost captured the boy, but Leo fought him off and escaped, hiding from his assailants in one of the garden's fountains. After the Hidden Ones Hytham and his mentor Basim Ibn Ishaq came to fight off the attackers, Arman and other surviving Order members fled the palace.[1]
Arman and his team set a trap for Basim waited as he tracked one of their injured brothers to an abandoned building. However, they saw that it was Hytham instead, but still captured and brought him to their hideout.[2] Restraining Hytham, Arman first interrogated the Hidden One and gave respect to him for Leo's training. With no response, Arman began to torture Hytham until Hytham quickly and severely bruised Arman's fingers with his knees. Immediately, another Order member came in and dismissed Arman from his duties.[3]
Death[]
During Isaac's interrogation,[4] their hideout was attacked by both Basim and Thyra to save Hytham, with Leo in tow. While Basim went to save Hytham, Thyra held off Isaac, his fellow Order members, and Arman. She held her own and killed Arman, leaving only Isaac and another assailant to fend off.[5]
