Ariston was a ship foreman who operated in Achaia, Greece during the Peloponnesian War.
Biography[]
A ship foreman responsible for the Shipwreck Cove, Ariston had at some point a number of bad experiences with mercenaries, resulting in him having a deep-seated dislike towards anyone practicing said profession,[1] believing them to be nothing but bloodthirsty beasts who used violence to solve everything.[2] He was also infamous for his love of wine, especially when drunk at the tavern of Pellene.[1]
In the 420s BCE, Ariston was keenly aware of the threat of the Tempest, the commander who had blockaded Achaia and sought to keep its people locked in. To do this, Ariston confiscated merchant ships at the docks, and kept them beached as the Tempest had instructed.[2]
However, Ariston was later persuaded to release Orontas' ships by Orontas and the Spartan misthios Kassandra. Before they parted ways, Ariston warned them that the Tempest wasn't to be taken lightly, suggesting that all the ships that crashed along the Scavenger's Coast were of her doing.[2]
