Anios was a figure in Greek myths, said to be the founder and king of Delos, who ruled the island during the Trojan War.

According to the stories, Anios had three daughters, one of which was Elais.[1]

Influence

By the time of the Peloponnesian War ruins of a sanctuary called Archegesion of Delos, dedicated to Anios, could still be seen.[1]

Trivia

  • According to the myths, Anios was the child of the god Apollo and Rhoeo; his grandfather refused to believe that Rhoeo had been impregnated by a god, so he shut her in a box and set adrift on the sea. She reached Delos, gave birth to the boy and placed it on an altar, praying for Apollo to save the baby if it was his.
