The mine and the nearby town was home to Aristomenes, a King of Messenia who was known for waging war against Sparta during the 7th century BCE. After his death, rumours emerged that his spirit haunted the region and the Spartans.
The proto-Assassin Darius and misthios Kassandra attacked the mines with the assistance of an Athenian general in an attempt to draw out Amorges. While the Athenian general died in the process, Kassandra was able to enter the mines, where she was confronted by Gergis, a Order's scribe. Kassandra was forced to kill Gergis and his guards before heading up to the hilltop confront Amorges.
