ACV Amber Shard

Amber

Amber is fossilized tree resin of golden hue. Though not a mineral, it is considered a gemstone and has been used to make a variety of decorative objects since antiquity.

History[]

Shortly after a group of fanatical Irish druids founded the pagan cult called the Children of Danu,[1] they found an amber deposit rumored to have come from the tree Eó Mugna,[2] one of five trees sacred to Celtic mythology.[3] Due to the tree's invincible nature as an offshoot of the Tree of Knowledge, any amber formed from its sap was said to have undefined mystical properties that could be unlocked if dipped in its owner's blood and exposed to light. Believing their discovery was a fortunate sign, each Child of Danu took a shard for themselves and kept it on their person at all times.[2]

During the late 9th century, the Viking jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan visited Ireland and collected the Children of Danu's amber shards for the druidic priestess Deirdre Na Linni, once to aid in the creation of a cure for a poison which had struck High King Flann Sinna's army,[2] and again as proof of having killed all the Children of Danu.[1]

During the Reconquista, the Spanish Brotherhood of Assassins used amber in order to create various weapons, accessories, and pieces of armor.[4]
