Alnitak (died 860s) was a criminal who worked in Baghdad in the 860s and conspired with his triplet brothers to victimize local merchants with the use of bandits and the Turkic military.
Biography[]
In the 860s, Alnilam and his brothers masterminded a plan by having bandits attack their city's merchants and rob them.[1] In response, the merchant guild sent a delegate to enlist the aid of the Hidden Ones in finding the traitor, by using marked coins to track the traitor's whereabouts.[2] Ultimately, the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq investigated a perfume trader's involvement,[3] and then concluded the perfume trader was a part of the conspiracy.[4]
Upon their brother's assassination,[4] Alnitak and Alnilam responded by having the delegate abducted by bandits for the murder of their brother. Yet, Basim managed to save the delegate,[5] who later planted a fake message to lure out the remaining mastermind. Both brothers responded to the message and met at Qasr Salih gate, where Basim spotted and realized their familial relationship. Realizing it was a setup, both brothers retreated back into Qasr Salih, where Alnitak checked on their men while Alnilam presided at the docks. However, both were later assassinated by Basim for their crimes against the merchant guild.[1]
