The Almogavars were fairly uncommon guards stationed in the cities of Constantinople and Cappadocia during the Renaissance. In Constantinople they mainly appeared in Byzantine districts. Roughly comparable to Italian Brutes, they fought with heavy weapons, were rather slow compared to other enemies, wore thick armor, and could not freerun. Like the Varangians, the Almogavars were employed by the Byzantines.

- Historically, the Almogavars were soldiers of Aragonese and Catalan origin. They were known to have worked as mercenaries for the Byzantine Empire.
