Ahkbar (died 1808) was a shady member of the Libyan Brotherhood of Assassins and an agent of the Sultan Selim III in the 19th century.

Biography[]

In 1805, Ahkbar and the ex-marine Edmund met with Napoleon Bonaparte's agent Jan van der Graff in a Tripolian tavern to give information about a secret entrance to Selim's palace so van der Graff could steal a large diamond the Sultan owned. As van der Graff and his ally Solomon Bolden entered the tunnel their contacts described, they were ambushed by several men waiting for them. During the brawl, Ahkbar revealed himself to be an Ottoman agent and stabbed Bolden in the back.[1]

Ahkbar then captured and interrogated van der Graff and certified to the Sultan that the Flemish was not a Templar like Bolden and knew nothing of the true power of the Koh-i-Noor. Though doubtful, the Sultan decided to keep Jan alive and had him thrown into the cell of Tavis Olier, who then trained the younger man in the Templar ways.[2]

In July 1808, Olier heard that the Assassins were coming to buy the Sultan's artifact. In order to escape, the two Templars assaulted the guards bringing them food but Olier sacrificed himself to save van der Graff. After dispatching several guards, van der Graff finally reached Selim's apartment and discovered that Ahkbar was an Assassin who had already poisoned the monarch and had taken possession of his prize. After revealing that he intended to betray the Brotherhood and keep the artifact for himself, Ahkbar tried to use the Koh-i-Noor and its power to create illusions, but Graff saw through it, focusing on Ahkbar's footsteps to find the real one and plunged his sword through his chest.[3]
