The Abyss Walkers are an elite sub-division of Abstergo Industries' paramilitary task force, Sigma Team, consisting of operatives who specialize in close-quarters combat and the use of melee weapons.[1]
History[]
Circa 2023, at least two katana-wielding Abyss Walkers were present at the harbor of Yangon, Myanmar, where Sigma Team was stationed in order to capture the Templar turncoat Shimazu Sei, her bodyguard Yuki, former Animus test subject Noa Kim, and the Assassin Nathan Zhang, who were in possession of two Pieces of Eden. When the operatives faced heavy resistance from Yuki, who decided to stay behind and face Sigma Team alone to buy the others time to escape, the Abyss Walkers were called into action to deal with the bodyguard.[1]
The Abyss Walkers swiftly cut down Yuki, impaling her with their katanas. However, the bodyguard did not go down immediately and, in her final moments, detonated a grenade, killing herself, the Abyss Walkers, and several other Sigma Team members present.[1]
Later, additional Abyss Walkers were dispatched to an uncharted island where Noa and Nathan had taken refuge following their escape from Yangon. The operatives ambushed Nathan and his men while Noa was in the Animus and almost killed them, but Noa awoke in time to save his allies, shooting an Abyss Walker with his Phantom Blade and incapacitating another with his electric shock baton bracer. Noa and Nathan then fought and defeated more Abyss Walkers while attempting to escape the island.[2]
After Sigma Team destroyed Noa and Nathan's seaplane and cornered the pair, a group of Assassins sent by Nathan's sister Claire Zhang came to his and Noa's rescue and engaged the Templars. Several Abyss Walkers tried to fight the Assassins, but despite their training, they were no match for their opponents and were ultimately killed.[3]
