The Abstergo Story was a series of informational text and videos similar to the Abstergo Files that were made available to the general public through participation in Abstergo Entertainment's console stage of the Animus. It was Abstergo Industries' aim to influence the populace through these means, although a hacking collective by the name of Erudito bypassed Abstergo's security in order to reveal truths about the organization and its work, provided that the audience worked together with them by completing various challenges.[1]

  • Thomas Fournier: With the Animus, we set out to take players into the past, and I mean the real past, not the kind entertainment companies dream up.
  • Suzuki Fumito: Using Abstergo's incredible research into genetic memory, we were able to create playable recollections that players can join, drop in drop out, stab each other, everything players like to do. That's what the Animus was made for. Gaming.
  • Steve Gerkin: When we think about the past, we think guns, sword fighting. You'll find a lot of that on this disk. These are playable recollections of the American Revolution distilled from actual memories.
  • Stacy French: With the Animus gaming device, we really tried to take science, stick it in a blender, and, you know, distill the next generation of entertainment. So get on your horse, grab your saber, and come back in time with us.
  • Suzuki Fumito: Relive our past in HD.
  • Steven Gerkin: And, above all, have fun.
  • Thomas Fournier: Have fun.
  • Suzuki Fumito: Have fun.
  • Stacy French: Have fun.

  • Advert: The youth of tomorrow will grow with us.

  • Steve Gerkin: Hi. It's Steve. As you can see I just came back from my lunch break. We hope you've been enjoying our Animus so far. One of the core values of Abstergo is focused collaboration. And the Animus takes it one step further, involving you in the conversation. We are all about giving you a voice in the future of tech. Cool, huh?
  • Stacy French: Hi. It's Stacy. You've probably never heard of Abstergo. But our family of products are totally used in your home. Go in the kitchen, the bathroom, the family room, and you're bound to find stuff made by the dozens of companies found in the Abstergo-verse.
  • Steve Gerkin: One of the ways in which we have the kind of future tech conversation I've been talking about is through monitoring your play session. So far we like what we see. Everything looks really promising. Keep it up!
  • Stacy French: Did you know that the Animus stimulates neurons in the frontal cortex? We discovered pretty early on that a few players have the ability to evolve those neural pathways, to achieve 100% synergy with the Animus. That's what we call it on the team. Maybe you'll be one of them!
  • Steve Gerkin: But even with partial synergy, the Animus will actually make you smarter.
  • Stacy French: Train your brain. In fact, we're getting smarter each day. You can really see it in the designs of the games we make.
  • Steve Gerkin: We like to think outside the box, about improvisation, team building, play styles. Even the accuracy of our historical avatars.
  • Stacy French: We really went for a delicate blend of historical and compelling.
  • Steve Gerkin: On top of that, Abstergo is committed to providing quality tutoring through our Animus line of games. We've commissioned several schools and celebrities to try out an Abstergo education and do you know what? They've endorsed it!
  • Stacy French: Thank you Michael, Katie, and Arnold!
  • Steve Gerkin: So you'd be doing a good thing passing it to your friends, or your friends' kids. It's educational! Now we'll let you get back to playing. Have fun!
  • Stacy French: Have fun.

THE BEAR_Hack
Kuruk left his homeland and traveled east when his elder brother was made chieftain of his tribe. This skilled warrior learned to create deadly weapons of his own design to remarkable effectiveness. His great strength and hot temper made him a force to be reckoned with. (It's not clear whether this dude fought for the Assassins or Templars, but he was a grunt. Nothing more.)

THE CARPENTER_Hack

The personification of the Irish working man, O'Brien traveled to America to start a new life, escaping his homeland where {{his liberties where under}}> the Templars poised a constant threat. A man of few words he was, at heart, peaceful, but years of persecution at the hands of the {{British}}> Templars conditioned him to violence.

(Reason enough to side with the Brotherhood...Classic! I call bluff on this cat_-_-_)

THE COMMANDER_Hack

A {{capable}}> ruthless military officer. Commander Davenport was one of the finest strategists of his time. Though he {{appeared to be}}> was cold and calculating, he demonstrated a fierce devotion to the {{men}}> Templars he led. Focusing only on the war against the Assassins and his duty to the Order, he had no idea that his own daughter his among his ranks.

(Oh he knew. Records indicate that the outfit she was part of was only sent on the most sensitive missions—to serve Templar interests.)

THE HESSIAN_Hack
One of the many thousands of German troops sent to the New World to fight for the British, von Stantten stood out in his appetite for war and devotion to the Templar Order. With virtually no personality to speak of, this man was an unstoppable killing machine who carried out his orders to the letter, never considering the possibility of defeat. (The Headless Horseman was supposedly a Hessian. Just saying..._-_-_)

THE HUNTSMAN_Hack

A man of privilege, de Saint-Prix was born to an aristocratic French family and received the best education. He was particularly adept at science and literature, and gained the knowledge to both design his own weapons and fighting style. Though he was shunned by the revolutionaries for his noble beginnings, his wit and courage earned him the respect of his Assassin compatriots.

(Ah now this is great. This dude is VERY well known within the Brotherhood. He was sent to America on his 17th birthday to fight for the cause, and his actions against the Templars earned him the admiration of his American Brothers. Respect. _-_-_)

THE INDEPENDENT_Hack

Alsoomse (which translates into English as "independent", in case you were wondering) gained this exceedingly fitting name as a child, because she was a very solitary girl. As she got older, Alsoomse, a true champion of truth, justice, and the Native American way became widely known for her {{determination}}> violent temper and fearlessness, willing to die for what she believed in.—freeing America of the Templars, no doubt.

(Best underdog story I've heard in a long time. Too bad it's completely fabricated.)

THE LADY MAVERICK_Hack

An {{orphan}}> parent killer who grew up on the streets with her little brother (whom she eventually traded for a can of beans), this strong, driven woman managed to survive the unforgiving frontier of the New World. Coupled with her street smarts, her natural talent for seduction has "earned her the favors" of some of the most influential {{politicians}}> Templars of her day.

(Gillian wasn't the first woman to "embrace" the Templars' cause.)

THE MOUNTEBANK_Hack
A learned man of science, Dr. Wolcott thrived on the acquisition of knowledge and power. He had a particular fascination with biology, medicine and the {{inner workings of the human body}}> occult; so much so that it was rumored he had devised an elixir potent enough to keep his Templar patients alive well beyond traditional medicine’s capabilities. (I wonder if Wolcott's research was based on Flamel's work...I bet Giovanni and Maria would know!)

THE NIGHT STALKER_Hack

This {{mentally unhinged}}> extraordinary man was known to stalk the streets of New York by night. Rumor had it that he worked as a mercenary for a secret organization (AKA the Assassin Brotherhood), though {{coin}}> justice was his only true motivation. His "Joe" moniker came from the name called out by one of his Templar victims just seconds before he died, though no one ever uncovered this murderer's true identity. (Can't argue with the last sentence... They call themselves Assassins for a reason.)

(Urban legend at its best. "Joe the Ripper"? Come on!)

THE PIONEER_Hack

The only girl in a family of ten, Burke (or "Calamity Mily", as I like to call her _-_-_) learned the meaning of hard work and sacrifice at a very young age. Growing up, she had trouble adjusting to the modesty required of her gender (God bless her soul!), and when the {{war}}> Order took the lives of her father and brothers, she forsook her claim and began to search for answers, killing {{anyone}}> the Templars she deemed responsible for the loss of her family.

(Evidence suggests that Calamity Mily never joined the Brotherhood, but she certainly was one of their most trusted allies in 18th century America.)

THE PREACHER_Hack

Driven by an unwavering faith, Padre Federico's unsettling charisma hid the obsessive need to cleanse the land of Assassin sinners (A real Templar poster boy _-_-_). He would deal death as quickly as forgiveness, and never hesitated to hang {{those he deemed heretics}}> who fought for the Brotherhood.

(I'm sure the Templars had this dude in their pockets. No doubt they admired such blind faith.)

THE RED COAT_Hack

An English army brat, Eleanor's life was heavily regimented in military fashion by her Templar father, Commander Matthew Davenport. Her devotion to {{her country}}> the Order was so absolute that she concealed her true identity in order to fight {{alongside her father's men}}> the Assassins.

(Young, strong, malleable: just the fascist's type the Templars like.)

THE ROBBER_Hack

Like his older sister, Gillian, (C'mon Gillian and Fillan [sic]... :S) Fillian McCarthy learned everything he knew from the streets. While Gillian manipulated her way up the social ladder, he broke ties with her after she sided with the Templars and made his own way into the world. Able to take care of himself, his only loyalty was to his next meal.

(And perhaps to the Brotherhood...but that remains unclear—he could have been just a pawn of the Assassins.)

THE SHARPSHOOTER_Hack

After witnessing his friends being burned alive by Templars, Garret joined the Revolutionary War and the Assassins. Exceptionally skilled with firearms, he guarded the woodland roadways with deadly efficiency.

(Did all Assassins suffer a tragic loss prior to joining the gang? Guess you have to be mentally unstable to be inducted into the Brotherhood. _-_-_)

THE SILENT SHADOW_Hack
Raised in seclusion by his Assassin father, away from his own people, Krynn was trained in the art of {{hunting}}> murder. He lived a quiet, {{peaceful}}> secret life until he found his father slain by a {{British}}> Templar raiding party. Hungry for revenge and seeking those responsible, he made the Templar-controlled cities of the new comers his hunting grounds. (Your deadly neighborhood Assassin _-_-_)

THE STRONG MAN_Hack

When news of his southern kin’s plight reached his land, this Inuit Chief traveled countless miles south to aid the revolutionaries and defend his people. He was deceptively fast and agile for a man his size, and especially dangerous at close range.

(Yeah...end-eye-roll...I wonder from which bad screenplay this one comes form. Who at Abstergo came up with that sh—?)

THE COYOTE MAN_Hack
This anti-social warrior was both feared and respected in his land. Though he may not have been interested in social interaction, he would fight tooth and nail to defend {{his village}}> Templar interests. He was considered the best Assassin hunter on the American eastern coast, and it is even said he once killed a {{bear}}> mentor with his bare hands. (Won deadliest Templar Guerilla Award five times in a row! _-_-_)

THE GOVERNOR_Hack
As a key contributor to the Revolution, de Galvez dealt a devastating blow to the British army in America, which made him a prime target for the {{red coats}}> Templars. (Bernardo de Galvez was named governor of Louisiana in 1777. Interestingly, he's mentioned here, but not once in Abstergo's other propaganda project set in New Orleans. I wonder why...)

THE HIGHLANDER_Hack
When {{ruined in}}> exiled from his home country, McGill travelled to the New World with only the clothes on his back and a sword at his side. An accomplished warrior, he cared not for the revolutionaries and event less for the British, but would fight for the {{highest bidder}}> Assassins to thwart the Templars' ambitions in America. (There are some orally passed folk tales of a man dubbed red Rage Duncan. I wonder if this is him.)
