A Talk With a Lady was a virtual representation of one of Yasuke's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]
Description[]
Yasuke travels to Odani to look for Lady Oichi.
Dialogue[]
Yasuke arrives at the Odani ruins and found Oichi's bodyguard Kuma waiting near the gate.
- Kuma: Yasuke! I'm over here, sir.
Yasuke approached him.
- Kuma: Welcome, sir. Are you ready to meet Lady Oichi?
- Yasuke: Yes, I am ready.
Kuma then led Yasuke to the residence.
- Yasuke: I remember you from Azuchi Castle.
- Kuma: Hah! Merely her ladyship's humble bodyguard.
- Yasuke: Loyalty is rare in these troubled times.
Yasuke followed Kuma into the residence, who then opened the door to the gardens. Inside, Yasuke found Oichi waiting with her servant. Yasuke entered the gardens and walked towards Oichi, who noticed his arrival.
- Lady Oichi: Yasuke. Thank you for coming.
Yasuke greeted with a bow.
- Lady Oichi: Your etiquette remains excellent.
Oichi then signaled for him to walk with her. As they walked, Yasuke took a look at the surrounding.
- Yasuke: What was this place?
Oichi sat down by a bunch of flowers, and picked one of them.
- Lady Oichi: My home. I try to keep the garden going. In his memory.
- Yasuke: Lovely. If not a little melancholy.
- Lady Oichi: And private. Your daimyo died.
Lady Oichi stood up.
- Yasuke: The traitor Mitsuhide would not let me die defending my lord. Said an outlander like me could not die with honor.
- Lady Oichi: Were you ready to die for my brother?
Yasuke could not answer.
- Lady Oichi: Some say you've become a ronin, a masterless samurai.
- Yasuke: Where I come from, no one wants a master.
- Lady Oichi: Others say you fight with the Ikko ikki, the peasant rebels. Does the name "Shinbakufu" mean anything to you?
- Yasuke: The Shinbakufu oppress this land. And yes, we fight against them.
- Lady Oichi: They are here in Omi too, oppressing the peasants and threatening the lawful order.
Lady Oichi continued to walk to another area, with Yasuke following suit.
- Lady Oichi: This is why I summoned you. I would stop the Shinbakufu if I could. But I am only a widow.
She took out a note and handed it over to Yasuke.
- Lady Oichi: My notes on their presence here in Omi. Extorting farmers and plotting to to destroy the teppo factory.
- Yasuke: We will put this to good use. This was your home.
- Lady Oichi: Years ago. Better days. Tell me. How did my brother die?
- Yasuke: With his sword drawn and a poem on his lips. The flames brought him no pain. His last words were, "Is there anything at all..."
- Lady Oichi: ... that once given life, won't perish?" From his favorite Noh play, Atsumori.
Oichi begin to walk back to their original position.
- Lady Oichi: One more thing you must do for me, if you will. Meet me at Isakiji Temple.
- Yasuke: A temple?
- Lady Oichi: Yes. We must continue the samurai education my brother started. We owe you that much.
Lady Oichi took out the flower she picked and gave it to Yasuke. The samurai then bowed as the lady left with Kuma and the servant. As Yasuke pondered over Oichi's words, Naoe appeared from behind a tree.
- Naoe: Anything for you, O perfect, O beautiful, Lady Oichi.
- Yasuke: You eavesdrop on me now?
- Naoe: It is the scorpion's nature to sting. Show me those envelopes she gave you.
Yasuke handed Oichi's note to Naoe.
- Yasuke: Corrupt tax collectors skimming for the Shinbakufu. And a plot to sabotage Nagahama.
- Naoe: And their leader, called "the Wheel," wears a mask of streaming tears.
- Yasuke: We will find him. Shall we get started?
Outcome[]
Yasuke met with Oichi in Odani, where she handed a note detailing her own investigation on the Shinbakufu activity in the region.
