A Dog's Rescue was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.[1]
Description[]
Eivor came across a burning house and a coughing woman kneeling on the ground.
Dialogue[]
Eivor found a singed woman on the ground outside of a burning house.
- Woman in Distress: O, my ickle Dandelion! Where are you, Dandy?
Here girl! Come out, Dandy-do!
You'll burn! Burn to a widdle crisp! Come out!
She approached the woman.
- Eivor: What has happened?
- Woman in Distress: Dandelion Puff upset dome kindling. Bad girl! Everything burst into flames! I barely escaped.
The woman coughed at odd times, the smoke affecting her.
- Eivor: Dandelion Puff?
- Woman in Distress: My widdle doggie-woggie! She's still in the house! I rushed out, but she didn't follow me!
Eivor broke a hole in the wall and clambered inside the burning building.
- Eivor: Dandelion? Uh, Dandy-do?
Eivor coughed slightly as she neared the back room, and heard an animal behind a reed wall.
- Fox: (urgent barks)
She broke open the reeds and liberated the animal, which turned out to be a fox.
- Eivor: Dandelion Puff, you're no dog.
- Fox: (bark)
- Eivor: This way, girl! Let's get out of here!
Eivor led the fox towards a way out of the house.
- Eivor: Your mistress is this way, Dandelion.
The pair approached the woman.
- Woman in Distress: Dandelion Puff! You live! That was wrong to stay in the burning house. Wrong, wrong, wrong!
- Eivor: She's lucky to be alive.
- Woman in Distress: Friend, I soon will sleep in the comforting arms of the Lord. Can you please look after my widdle doggie-dog?
- Eivor: Dandy is no dog. She is a fox.
- Woman in Distress: A fox? How silly I've been! So that's why you love the forest so, eh, Dandy Puff!
- Eivor: But yes, I will find a place for her.
- Woman in Distress: Bless you, I die in peace. Goodbye, my Dandy-Dandy-Dooooooo...
The woman passed away.
Walking some distance away from the burning house, Eivor spoke to the fox.
- Eivor: Dandy.
- Fox: (questioning bark)
- Eivor: We need a place for you to stay. Would you like to join my settlement?
- Fox: (bark)
The fox charged off towards Ravensthorpe.
Upon returning to Ravensthorpe, Eivor greeted the fox once again.
- Eivor: Dandy! I am happy to see you.
- Fox: (barks happily)
Outcome[]
Eivor rescued Dandelion Puff.
Behind the scenes[]
Upon joining the settlement, Dandelion Puff's A.I. may reset to that of an ordinary fox, and thus it will run away from the player in perpetuity. Odin's Sight will reveal it to have an blue "ally" marker dot above its head and it cannot be hunted, marking it as a proper member of the community, but its tendency to run away makes it difficult to get near and trigger the post-memory dialogue "welcoming" it to the settlement. At the very least, an ability such as Blinding Rush—which gives Eivor bullet-time speed for as long as her stamina holds out—will allow the player to easily approach it for this purpose.
