À la Lanterne! was a virtual representation of one of Arno Dorian's genetic memories, relived by a Helix initiate through the Helix Navigator.
Description[]
Arno approached the grieving Duchesse de Fremiet at the gallows.
Dialogue[]
- Fremiet: My son! Oh, my poor boy!
Why will they not leave me in peace? I want nothing but to return home to grieve my loss.
They hanged him for no good reason! I've taken a small pendant from his neck. Please sir, could you protect me as I take it back to our family home? My hope is to bless this pendant with the last rites. Is that unreasonable?
Arno escorted the Duchesse to her home, all the while being taunted by passersby.
- Crowd: Death to aristocrats!
Hang her from the lamp post! She's an aristo too!
À la lanterne!
And now his mother! À la lanterne!
He doesn't deserve a decent burial!
He's not dead enough. Chop off his head!
Toss him in the rubbish pit!
It's not enough to hang him. Hang the mother too!
They reached her house.
- Fremiet: Thank you, kind sir. At least I have something to remember him by. May he rest in peace!
Outcome[]
The Duchesse de Fremiet was able to safely bury what little she could of her son.
