I just bought a physical copy of AC 2 and after putting in my Xbox One it told me the game was not compatible. I looked on Microsoft's website and it said AC 2 is backwards compatible. Does anyone have any trouble shooting suggestions?
Number 1: Edward because I feel like he has more nuance than Ezio, and his arc is amazing because it covers the cost of his desires.
Number 2: Ezio because he is just so charming and likable. Other than Edward, Ezio was instantly likable and well written.
Number 3: Connor because though his character does have as much growth as the previous two, he does have a tragic story about the cost of the Assassin-Templar War.
I feel like Valhalla needed to be 20 to 30 hours shorter. That would hold my engagement more.
I like that the franchise uses a new protagonist and new setting every game.
All of that is granted, but Ezio's popularity stems from his writing in ACII in my opinion. A lot of what you said is things they have done, but from my perspective, the reason people like Ezio and Edward vs. someone like Altair comes down to writing and the character's personality. (Altair has a personality like cardboard)
This is a good example of how to use assassins creed to "rewrite" history with an interesting twist. Also a good example of keeping things short and sweet.
I played them equally. I feel like that whole game could be much shorter though and it would be better.
Ezio and Edward are tied for me personally. Ezio's raw charm and good writing make him instantly likable. I feel like Edward has slightly more nuance to him. He losses so many because of his own decisions vs. Ezio who loses his family because of his heritage.

It's disappointing that Ubisoft sidelined Aveline to a side game. They are so afraid of female protagonists.
In my opinion Edward is the best too. His lust for wealth I find very compelling and it leads to the death of many of his friends.
Two AC games in one year is not good and Unity's release shows that.
I would personally rank Eivor higher, Altair lower, and Shay lower.
I think following on the heels of Black Flag, Ubisoft wanted to make a game that further explored what the Duncan Walpole betrayal of the order would look like in detail. Had Ubisoft focused on Rogue more than Unity, either of the games would have done better.
The franchise has a new identity and some people like that and others don't. It puts less emphasis on being an Assassin and within that current context that's alright. I do miss the more traditional formula though.

I NEED to play AC 2 and experience Ezio
Spanish Inquisition all the way. I want a return to the classic loop with no skill tree and a drip feed of new items through the story. No optional objectives either. Black boxes from Unity and some more "assassin" moments where you hunt central templars as built into the central narrative. No more of this cult of Kosmos, order of the ancients side story hit list stuff. A return to pre-origins parkour would also be appreciated.
I don't mind very much but I prefer canon. Regardless, the ultimate gameplay is important. I feel like Eivor is well developed even with RPG choices because all of the options are thoroughly written.
I haven't played it. I need to
@Captain Sim0n0 the countering problem you mention is fixed in Valhalla with the stun meter and stun finishers.
