I think that they didn't have modern section in first place, which is a terrible idea. (The reason we use the animus is to find something in the present). Also i think they didn't forseen that Basim would be popular, even if they put him fairly in the marketing of Valhalla. So, they had nothing written in the present day for him which is a shame. Desmond had clearly an arc, Layla had some seed plant in the isu recording in origins, but Basim who search his children and his wife, no, we can't written a story about this, not enough material.
