On the Bolshevik revolution it does seem that Ubisoft hires Marxists as no minority, which is also evident by their modern day political endorsements, but even if the Assassins sought to simply end the current Tsardom in Russia, they still strangely supported Lenin's turbulent reign as head of state. Of course the lore designated Stalin as a Templar since everybody with an inkling of historical knowledge hates him.

Neither are right or wrong. You can’t have Order without Freedom because then everything is bland and boring, but you can’t have Freedom without Order because then everything is anarchy and chaos. There has to be a balance between the two

@Dionysus01 This is actually called the golden mean fallacy. Again, freedom and order is a false dichotomy, and it is wrong to equate Assassins with freedom and Templars with order.

Under authoritarian systems, there is freedom—freedom for those in power to be want only abusive without restraints. And we only need to look at the news, a little of history, and examine the lore around Templars to understand that rhetoric about order is often an excuse for chaos.

Under democracy, there is order because separation of powers, checks and balance, the supremacy of a constitution, and the principle of legal integrity and judicial independence constraints politicians and common people alike from indulging in their arbitrary whims.

Hence, "freedom vs. order" is just rhetoric by authoritarians and anarchists alike to obscure the complex realities of politics.

But the reason why it is a golden mean fallacy to say that the Assassins and Templars are equally good and equally bad is because at the end of the day, the Assassins have a strict taboo against harming and terrorizing innocent people whereas Templars invariably believe that no loss of innocent lives is too great of a cost to justify their goals.

Even if the Assassins are also in the wron, to say that Assassins and Templars must balance with one another implies they are equally right or equally wrong, which in turn suggests that a faction which condemns killing innocent people is as bad as a faction which glorifies it.

By the UN definition, the Assassins actually are not terrorists but the Templars are.

@Sol Pacificus Okay but that’s exactly what Ubisoft made the purpose of the Assassin’s and Templar’s to be. Whether or not it’s wrong or right to determine order and freedom doesn’t mean that they aren’t a part of the Assassin’s Creed universe😂

@Dionysus01 That not how Ubisoft has written the Assassins and Templars at all. Please read my other explanations in this thread. Freedom and order is a theme in the series, but this does not mean that the series promotes such a superficial, fallacious, and bland dichotomy. Rather, the story deconstructs it.

They both fight for the core concept of peace. It’s more about what methods you’re willing to accept and employ. The assassins are more about freedom and more guiding humanity towards peace and reaching it of its own volition, the Templar’s would employ peace through what some would argue are authoritarian means
