It's a hard choice, but I think the best would be the Mongolian Empire. AC needs a BIG break from the Western History & Culture. Ancient Egypt was a breath of fresh air, as was even the American Revolution in AC3 after years in Renaissance Era South Eastern Europe (Italy & even Constantinople) ...but AC3 was still set in Western culture.
I would love Feudal Japan, but they should not do it now, especially now that Sucker Punch knocked it out of the park with their Japan set game (Ghost of Tushima) and exposed AC for its folly lol.... for: -1) Never being willing to do an Asian setting -2) Showing how much better their games could be lol- but I still love AC, and always will. Any attempt to make a Japanese based game at the moment would result in unnecessary comparison, ridicule, and the flinging of claims of "Ubisoft is trying to copy Sucker Punch". As a fan I'd rather not deal with that, so I think a different route should be taken.
There are plenty of other Eastern/Asian settings, cultures, and stories that have yet to be explored- and are just waiting to be lived in and admired (Ghost of Tushima is proof of that). Aside from Mongolia there is: -China -India -Korea -Indonesia -Hell even Russia, but Russia honestly feels more Western or at least Mid Eastern (specifically like Turkey/ Slavic), than Far Eastern/Stereotypical Asian. Russia is still an area that's never been fully explored, and I think would be fun to live in. Point is, all these places have different cultures, and their own history that has yet to be explored, and would fit within the continuity (or timeline) of AC; there would not be a need to go beyond BC/BCE with these places. Same is also true for "sub-saharan" Africa.
Many assume that there is nothing to glean from African history except for Egypt and the rest of Northern Africa (specifically post-Western Occupation or Arab Occupation)- and thus everything sub-saharan is deemed uninteresting and "not worth time". The truth is Africa is filled with great history and culture that is too often overlooked, underappreciated, and grossly thought of as inferior compared to the rest of the world. So far the world goes no further than Egypt when showing casing African History in the mainstream media. Or when they do, the mainstream image of Africa and African History is usually during a time of European Occupation, poverty, war, and etc. AC could help change that. There are quite a few points in African History, in common era (post BCE), that fit in AC continuity & timeline. To name a few: -Axum/Askum Empire -Mali Empire -Songhai Empire -Could even do the rule of Shaka Zulu.
But anyways! To answer the over asked, reoccurring, question again lol.....I think the next game and next few games should be set in an Asian setting. At least one of each set in Mongolia, China, India, and Japan. Then HOPEFULLY, eventually, we could get AT LEAST ONE game in sub-saharan Africa. Sorry for the long reply 😊.
Ancient Rome
INDIA for sure
Also this question has been asked sooo many times now lol
I think we need one in Persia, Japan, or China. Rome I’m kind of iffy on that.
I would kill for there to be an assassins creed set in Ireland during the viking invasions.
I mean you kinda have that with Valhalla tho
Middle Europe, maybe Russia.
Eastern Europe
Civil war would be interesting
What do you think?
